Telegram doesn't pay you just for having subscribers. It pays channel owners in two ways. Eligible public channels with at least 1,000 subscribers can get 50% of the revenue from Telegram's ads shown in them. Channels can also collect Telegram Stars from their audience, through paid posts, Star reactions, paid subscriptions and paid suggested posts. Both can be withdrawn as cryptocurrency through Fragment.
Beyond Telegram's own payouts, you can earn from your audience and from brands: sponsored posts, sponsored giveaways, a paid private channel and digital products. Here's each method, what you need for it, and who it suits.
Does Telegram pay for channels?
Yes, through ad revenue sharing. When Telegram launched it in March 2024, it said owners of "public channels with at least 1000 subscribers" can receive 50% of the revenue from the ads shown in their channel (Telegram). Telegram's ad platform confirms that ads "are displayed in public channels with 1000+ subscribers" (Telegram Ads).
Telegram shows your earnings in Channel Settings > Statistics > Monetization (Telegram).
Read the fine print in Telegram's Terms of Service for Content Creators before you count on this income (Telegram):
- The share "is subject to change at any time without notice", and Telegram calls the rewards an "optional good-faith effort", not payment for a service.
- Payouts are processed by Fragment and sent to your cryptocurrency wallet. Telegram's current terms call the currency Gram (older Telegram posts say Toncoin).
- Ad revenue becomes available to withdraw 2 days after it's earned.
- Telegram can withhold rewards for fake views, bought activity or rule-breaking content.
So the honest answer to "will Telegram pay for my channel?" is: yes, if your channel is public, has 1,000+ subscribers, follows the rules, and ads are shown to your audience. How much depends on how many ads your readers see.
Requirements to monetize a Telegram channel
What you need depends on the method:
- For ad revenue sharing: a public channel with at least 1,000 subscribers, content that follows Telegram's terms and ad policies, and ads being shown in your region.
- For Stars: no subscriber minimum. You turn on the features you want, such as paid posts, Star reactions or a paid subscription link. Telegram's terms say these are for "eligible" channels, so a feature may be missing for some channels or regions.
- To withdraw: a crypto wallet that works with Fragment, and an account you keep safe. If you lose access to your account, Telegram's terms say your balance is lost too (Telegram).
- For sponsors and products: an audience that trusts you. There's no minimum, and an engaged audience matters more than a big one.
Telegram Stars: what your audience can pay for
Telegram Stars are a virtual item people buy inside Telegram and spend in channels, bots and mini apps. As a channel owner, you can earn Stars in several ways:
- Paid posts. Post a photo or video that subscribers only see after paying Stars (Telegram).
- Star reactions. Readers can tip a post with Stars. Telegram's docs say "channel owners receive 100% of the stars" (Telegram).
- Paid subscriptions. Make a private channel and charge a monthly fee in Stars through a special invite link. The Stars go to your channel's balance (Telegram). Our guide to a Telegram paid channel walks through it.
- Paid suggested posts. People and brands can send your channel a post through its direct messages and offer Stars (or Toncoin, now called Gram) for publishing it. You can suggest edits or decline. When Telegram launched this in 2025, the channel received the payment 24 hours after posting (Telegram).
- Gifts. Channels can receive Telegram gifts, and an owner can convert a gift into Stars within a limited time after receiving it (Telegram).
How Stars turn into money
Your channel's Stars can be used in two ways (Telegram):
- Withdraw them through Fragment as Gram, the cryptocurrency Telegram uses. Stars become available 21 days after you earn them (Telegram), and you need a minimum balance, set by Telegram, before you can withdraw.
- Spend them on Telegram Ads to promote your own channel.
Two more rules from Telegram's creator terms: Stars you earn are valid for 3 years, and the dollar value the app shows you is an estimate, not a fixed price. Telegram also warns that Stars bought through Apple may be refunded to the buyer within 21 days, which can take Stars back out of your balance (Telegram).
Other ways to earn from a Telegram channel
Sponsored posts
A brand pays you to publish a post about its product. You agree the price and terms directly with the brand, or through Telegram's paid suggested posts. Only promote what you'd recommend anyway, and mark sponsored posts clearly.
Sponsored giveaways
A brand provides the prize, and you run a giveaway in your channel. The brand gets attention, your subscribers get a fair chance at a prize, and you get paid. Our guide to running a Telegram giveaway bot covers the rules that keep it fair.
A paid private channel or group
Keep a free public channel as the front door, and sell access to a private channel or group with your best content: lessons, early access, behind-the-scenes posts. Telegram's subscription links handle channels. For a group, or for one-time access, you need a bot.
Selling digital products
Presets, templates, guides, codes, packs: anything you can deliver inside Telegram. If you sell digital goods through a bot or mini app, Telegram requires the payment to be in Stars (Telegram).
Ways to monetize a Telegram channel, compared
| Method | What you need | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Ad revenue sharing | Public channel, 1,000+ subscribers | Large public channels with many readers |
| Paid posts and Star reactions | Turn the features on | Creators with exclusive photos, videos or a loyal audience |
| Paid subscription (private channel) | A private channel and a paid invite link | Channels with content people return for |
| Sponsored posts and giveaways | An engaged audience, brand contacts | Niche channels whose readers buy things |
| Digital products | Something to sell, a bot that takes Stars | Creators who make presets, guides or templates |
How much does a Telegram channel earn?
There's no honest single number. Two channels with the same subscriber count can earn very different amounts. It depends on:
- Your niche. Some topics attract more advertisers and sponsors than others.
- Where your readers live. Advertisers choose where their ads run, and ads and Stars aren't available in every region.
- How many people actually read. Telegram's ad share is based on ad impressions, so readers who open your posts matter more than the subscriber count.
- Which methods you combine. Ads, Stars, sponsors and products can all run at the same time.
- How often you post, and whether people trust your recommendations.
For Telegram's own ads and Stars, the Monetization tab in your channel statistics shows an estimate of your balance. For everything else, you set the price, so start with something simple and adjust.
How to monetize a Telegram channel in India or Nigeria
Telegram doesn't publish a list of countries where ad revenue sharing works. Its creator terms say the rewards program "may be partially or fully unavailable" in some regions, that Fragment "may be unable to issue rewards for certain users or in certain countries", and that ads and Stars may not be available to every audience (Telegram).
So check it directly:
- Open Channel Settings > Statistics and look for the Monetization tab.
- Read Telegram's ad platform pages and the creator terms for the current conditions.
- Check that your readers can buy Stars before you build your plan around Stars.
Methods that don't depend on Telegram's ads, such as sponsored posts and selling your own products, work wherever your audience is. In every country, taxes on what you earn are your responsibility.
Watch out for monetization scams
Searches like "AI earn Telegram bot real or fake" exist for a reason. Telegram pays creators through the Monetization tab and Fragment, not through a third-party bot. Be careful with:
- bots that promise money for tapping, watching or inviting people;
- anyone who asks for a fee to "activate" or "approve" monetization;
- sellers of "already monetized" channels;
- people who ask for your login code or your wallet's recovery phrase.
Using PowerTeleBot to sell access and products
PowerTeleBot is a Telegram mini app that creates bots for channel owners. Two of its ready-made bots are built for earning:
- Paid Channel sells access to your private channel or group for Stars. People get in and out automatically. A channel is sold by the month with Telegram's own subscription link on the Growth and Scale plans, with no fee: the Stars go straight to your channel. A group can be sold by the month or once, on any plan.
- Digital Store sells presets, packs, codes and guides for Stars, with a pay link you can post anywhere.
You describe what you want in plain words, fill in a few fields, and Power creates the bot for you, with a name and a profile photo. You can try it privately, free for 3 days. Going live needs a plan, from 450 Stars a month on Basic. Power keeps 5% of the Stars your bots sell, except channel subscriptions, which are paid to your channel directly with no fee.
